Michael has been getting his hands dirty in clay since the age of 7. When he graduated from NYU in 1991 with a degree in clay sculpture, he didn't know what to do for a living, so he sold his handmade wares in street fairs and craft shows around New York City on weekends, carting his wares on a handtruck on the subway. Now Michael Wainwright USA sells to stores big and small across the country, and Michael thinks he has finally figured out what he wants to do in life.
Although Michael believes he runs the operations of the company, it is actually Bette who is responsible for most things at Michael Wainwright USA.
Working as a stylist in New York City for 10 years, Bette moved permanently to the Berkshires in 2000. She has been working with Michael for more than 10 years, and still retains her sanity.
If you have visited the studio store on the weekend, more than likely, you have been helped by the gentle and knowledgeable Humberto. Somehow, he has also put up with Michael for more that 10 years at Michael Wainwright USA, and is a packer extraordinaire, among other talents.
A veteran in the industry, Charlie joined Michael Wainwright USA in 2019 as Manager of National Sales. Michael and Charlie have known each other for years, and still Charlie chose to come on board, making him the least stable of the entire group.
